We accept applications on a rolling basis, depending on space availability, and our priority application deadline is typically at the end of January for a fall start.

Our primary entry point is kindergarten, but we regularly enroll students in other grades as space allows. Many of our second and third grade applicants come from families seeking a different school experience for their child.

Within 48 hours, we will email you a checklist outlining which application materials we have received, which are still outstanding, and the next steps in the process. If all application materials are complete, you will be invited to schedule your child’s classroom visit. Kindergarten applicants are asked to attend a group visit day held on a Saturday morning in late February or early March, while applicants to grades 1 and above are invited for a two-day visit.

Applicants to first grade and above will be joining an already-established class community, so it’s important for us to spend a bit more time with them. A two-day visit also supports students who may be slower to warm up, giving them a chance to feel more comfortable and allowing us to get a fuller picture of who they are.

We offer families with younger siblings the option to apply early in the fall before their child is expected to enroll. If a younger sibling is offered admission, the family will receive a new enrollment contract for that child at the same time they receive a re-enrollment contract for their current Island School student in January. Our hope is always that families can enroll all of their children with us. If a younger sibling’s needs are not a fit for our program, the early process gives us time to have honest conversations about fit and allows the family plenty of time to explore other options.
